BetMGM Advertises to Self-Excluded Players

If a player in Sweden is self-excluded through spelpaus.se, gambling companies are prohibited from allowing them to play on their platforms or sending them direct advertising.

I decided to test the self-exclusion feature to see if it functions as intended.

So far, I have been unable to play on any of the sites I've tried to access, and I have only received gambling-related advertising from one site. That site is BetMGM.se, operated by MGMNordic Ltd, a company owned by LeoVegas International Ltd.

LeoVegas has been active in the Swedish gambling market under a license since its inception in 2019, though the BetMGM site was launched in October of last year. It is therefore surprising that such an established operator would make this mistake and fail to implement foolproof processes to comply with the licensing requirements.

I hope this was an isolated oversight by BetMGM and that it won’t occur again while I remain self-excluded.
